Over 200 markers across the state take you on an unforgettable journey into the land that spawned the single most important root source of modern popular music - The Blues. The Mississippi Gulf Coast currently has 8 Mississippi Blues Trail markers celebrating the history of Blues joints in Bay St Louis, Pass Christian, Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Moss Point and Pascagoula.
The Mississippi Country Music Trail casts a spotlight on state’s contributions to country music. The Magnolia State is well-known for the Blues but we invite you to meet its multi-talented first cousin, Country Music. Call it hillbilly, honky tonk, neo-traditional or whatever you choose, country music has deep roots and continues to thrive in Mississippi. The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a marker in Vancleave celebrating Paul Overstreet and Biloxi celebrates Chris LeDoux.
The Mississippi Freedom Trail was created in 2011 to commemorate the people and places in the state that played a pivotal role in the American Civil Rights Movement. A new, interactive Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson explores the true stories of the Civil Rights movement, and shows how those events shaped a state and changed the world. There are over 20 sites on the Mississippi Freedom Trail where you can experience history at the source. Coastal Mississippi's Biloxi Beach Wade-In was recently added to the Freedom Trail.
